Alexander’s “Best on Hilton Head Island” wine selection comes from a team of experts
At Alexander’s Restaurant & Wine Bar, we take tremendous pride in our extensive selection of wines, which has just been given the Hilton Head Monthly 2020 Readers' Choice Award for “Best Wine Selection on Hilton Head Island.”
Our award-winning selection is procured from a variety of wine makers and local experts, who regularly call on and conduct wine tastings for the management team at Alexander’s.
From the tastings, decisions are made by the management team regarding which wines to add and remove from our list.
During certain times of the year, there are different varietals — non-generic wines made from a particular grape — that are represented more than others, based on the season and the menu items offered by Chef Sean Carroll.
Fun fact: there are more than 10,000 wine grape varieties in the world, but only a few dozen have achieved widespread popularity and acclaim. Some grapes, like primitivo/zinfandel and syrah/shiraz, have different names depending on where they are grown.
Cabernets are always popular. During the cooler months, cabernets move better than during the summer. During the summer months, more white varietals are offered for their cool and refreshing tastes.
The best rule of thumb when it comes to wine? If you like it, drink it.
